Splendid set of 5 cups, japanese chawan with cracked glaze decorated with a crab in relief. A true work of art of rare japanese ceramics and sought after by collectors around the world. These cups are made in a single region of japan in matsuyama according to a tradition dating back to japanese feudal times. The secrets of its manufacture is held by a single family, passed down from generation to generation since the 17th century. The last member, rakuzan tamei, died in 1990, there is no successor. The particularity of the factory are these carved crabs that give this impression of coming out of the rocks. This tradition is inspired by a famous japanese poem from the middle ages. The cups are in excellent condition, preserved in their original wooden box, box signed by the potter artist rakuzan tamei 1924-1990. International delivery possible.
