Antique solid walnut chest of drawers with scrolls

Antique solid walnut commode with scrolled handles, dating from the 1810s/1830s. Solid walnut on all visible surfaces, including the legs and scrolls. The top is composed of two planks, sanded, stained, and finished with a bistro varnish. Four drawers, including one in the frieze above the scrolls. Gilt brass handles, bronze keyhole escutcheons. Wide, straight, and imposing legs topped with scrolls. Simple, paneled sides. This charming commode comes from a manor house in a village in northern Aveyron, southern France. High-quality materials, traditional craftsmanship, assembled with wooden pegs. Very good overall condition; the front and sides are in excellent condition, and the top has been restored. Wood-boring insects have marked the wood on the back of the piece, but without affecting the structure or the legs. The commode is stable and sturdy. The piece has undergone a complete curative treatment. The tabletop has been sanded, stained, and protected with a bistro-style varnish. The four drawers open and close smoothly and easily.
