Antique cast iron and brass fire dogs: lion head.

A pair of vintage cast iron and brass andirons adorned with a lion's head, to add character and a touch of grandeur to a fireplace. The front of each andiron is richly decorated in the rococo style: at the center, a lion's head mask is set in a medallion framed by scrolls and acanthus leaves. Below, a rosette marks the starting point of two large leafy scrolls that form the feet and end in clusters of grapes. The top is crowned with a handle-shaped grip. At the back, sturdy wrought iron bars, bent at their ends, support the logs. This decor, blending lions, acanthus, and vine motifs, is inspired by the Louis XIV and Louis XV styles, highly appreciated in bourgeois interiors of the late 19th century. These andirons of yesteryear can find their use in a hearth or adorn a decorative fireplace with a stack of logs. Sold as is with visible traces in the photos.
