Washerwoman at the washhouse - Old oil painting signed Gilbert

Superb small oil on panel depicting a lively landscape in the pre-impressionist style of the late 19th century: a view of a village with a bell tower and bridge, from the edge of a body of water. On the other side of the bank, a washhouse and a busy washerwoman. Signed "Gilbert" in the bottom right, a pseudonym regularly used by the Austrian painter Karl Kaufmann (1843-1902 or 1905), this work would fit well with the style of this artist known for his paintings of bucolic landscapes. Dimensions visible: W. 15 cm X H. 10.5 cm. Framed: W. 29 cm X H. 25 cm.
