Alice Colonieu ceramic candlestick from the 1940s/50s. In perfect condition with impressed signature and stamp. Height: 12 cm. Width: 12 cm. She worked for renowned decorators such as Jean Royère (pedestal tables with floral and animal motifs), Maurice Rinck, and Jules Leleu, for whom she created two ceramic panels that adorned the swimming pool of the ocean liner Pierre Loti. She also fulfilled public commissions (for example, the post office in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue) and private commissions (churches in Roaix and Valréas in the Vaucluse region). In 1961, she received a gold medal from the National Fine Arts Exhibition. The artist ceased her ceramic production in 1969, disillusioned by the overly "touristy" production of the time and by the commercialism of the galleries. She then devoted herself solely to specific commissions while also painting and illustrating children's books. In 1992, the Jean-Pierre Chalon Gallery held a retrospective of her entire body of work. The signatures "Alice Colinieu" are most often engraved in clay or stamped.
