Rare hand candlestick in glazed stoneware made by Pierre Pigaglio, a potter from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Nièvre. This piece features an original composition combining a circular dish, a central candlestick with a baluster silhouette, and a side handle in a volute shape. The relief decoration and the glazes in shades of brown, beige, and ochre testify to the craftsmanship of the potters from Puisaye. Pierre Pigaglio (born in 1913) settled in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye during the Second World War. Between 1944 and 1946, he ran Jean Maubrou's workshop and contributed to the revival of local stoneware. He notably welcomed the young Jean Derval, a future prominent name in Vallauris ceramics, with whom he developed a more inventive production, blending potter tradition and artistic research. In 1946, he left Saint-Amand for Cosne-sur-Loire. Artist referenced in the book: Marks and Signatures, from Jean Carriès to the present day, Marks and Signatures. An interesting piece for collectors of Puisaye stoneware and post-war French ceramics. Dimensions: Height: 9.5 cm. Diameter: 12.5 cm. Condition: to be restored. The handle has visible cracks and breaks, requiring restoration intervention. Sold as is, in accordance with the photographs. Origin: Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, Nièvre, France. Period: around 1944-1946.
