A true collector's item, the Garden Egg Chair, designed in 1968 by p.ghyczy, incorporates typical features of the era: a space-age-inspired design, a UFO shape, portability, and the informality of the low seat. It was one of the first chairs made of polyurethane, a key material of the 1960s suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, although as a design icon and collector's item, it was rarely used outdoors. As attractive open as it is closed, with its lacquered upholstery, it embodies both a functional piece of furniture and a sculptural object. Inside, a soft cushion, upholstered in a carmine-red fabric, promotes comfort and relaxation. The fiberglass shell shows slight signs of use consistent with its age. The cushion is in very good condition. Peter Ghyczic's "Garden Egg" chair is featured in the permanent collections of renowned museums worldwide, including the V&A Museum (London, GB), the Wende Museum (Los Angeles, USA), the Design Museum Holon (Holon, ISR) and the Adam-Brussels Design Museum (Brussels, BE). Closed height: 40; open height 100; seat height x depth: 30x50cm.
