This magnificent engraving depicts a fishing scene in the middle of a landscape with lush vegetation. In the foreground of this scene is a man standing fishing. At his feet, a young woman and a child look at the water. Further on, on the right, is another fishing scene, this time with two men. The whole is immersed in nature. In the background is a shepherd with a herd of cattle. This scene was first painted by francesco zuccarelli. He was an 18th century painter and engraver. He began his training in rome and then in florence as a figure painter. He then moved to venice. He was noted for his talent in landscape art. He enjoyed the protection of the english consul joseph smith, for whom he produced many works. This engraving is made by francesco bartolozzi who is an engraver of the late 18th century and early 19th century. He is an italian who followed a 3-year training in painting. But he eventually devoted himself to engraving. He settled in venice. He worked in the studio of joseph wagner, the publisher of this engraving. But he eventually moved to london where he was appointed official engraver of george III. He kept this title for forty years, thanks to the improvement of the french technique known as red chalk, which he used to reproduce the famous portraits of the royal collection. Joseph wagner is the editor of this engraving. He is also a copper engraver of the eighteenth century. He is a german who received training as a painter and copper engraver. He went to italy around 1726. In venice, he opened a school and started selling prints.
