A pair of ceramic wall sconces designed by Sigvard Bernadotte for the Swedish manufacturer Ifö. The fixtures embody 1960s Scandinavian modernism, combining a geometric design with a minimalist form and a distinctive color scheme. Each wall sconce consists of a blue, glazed ceramic base and a vertical shade with a tapered, conical silhouette. The body has a compact, asymmetrically shaped form with horizontal grooves that emphasize its horizontal layout. The glossy, turquoise-blue glaze contrasts with the milky-white surface of the shade, made of opal glass. The proportions of both elements give the sconces a distinctive, architectural character. The Bernadotte design stands out for its functional approach to design: its decorative quality stems from its proportions, color, and the subtle shaping of the ceramic surface. The wall sconces were intended, among other places, for utility rooms, including bathrooms, where durable materials and a compact construction were essential.
