This shelving unit is the folding model "Bokhylla" designed by Jan Schedin for the IKEA PS collection in 1997. It has a birch structure with green laminate panels, consisting of four articulated and foldable sections. Dimensions: height 194 cm. Square module sections: 27 x 27 cm. Closed: 55 x 55 cm. Width of the open shelf - Photo 1: ~115 cm Function: a versatile piece of furniture that can serve as a modular bookshelf or a mobile room divider thanks to its hinges. This folding bookshelf was part of a collection of forty products by twenty designers, introduced by IKEA in 1994 under the name IKEA PS. The items in the PS collection were characterised by their simplicity, functionality, and a new spirit of functionalism prevailing in 1990s design. The name of the collection suggests that these items were an addition to the brand's regular products, and were generally more expensive, but remained more affordable than contemporary furniture from other manufacturers. With the PS range, IKEA introduced a more avant-garde quality design that could compete with contemporary Italian manufacturers, making contemporary design accessible to a wide audience.
