Beautiful panoramic orientalist painting made in oil on wooden panel (annotated on the back to the lead mine) representing a view of "the cornice of Phillipville" (renamed Skikda) "towards Stora". Very nice workmanship for this luminous work made by Pierre Faget (1890/1961), artist very well referenced. If we are to believe the erased indications on the back of the panel, this work would probably have belonged to the Hotel Regina, in Algiers. The period setting is offered with the work. Record sales for the artist: 3600 euros. Bio of the artist (extract from the article "Les artistes de l'Algérie" Dictionnaire des peintres, sculpteurs, graveurs 1830–1962 by Elisabeth Cazenave, edition Bernard Giovanangeli. (p.237): Pierre Faget studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Bordeaux. He paints sought-after marines. He worked with Léon Carré and Albert Marquet. He married in Algiers in 1929. He exhibited in Algiers and Paris. Two of his paintings adorned the large living room of the liner "El Kantara". In the magazine Oran-Matin Alfred Cazes writes "painter of the sea. He sometimes paints flowers – and masterfully, but it is above all the infinite mobility of the waves that seduces and holds him back. Its swells have a soul, its firmaments a language. » Exhibitions: Algiers: 1932 and 1934 at the Salon des artistes algériens. Panel dimension: 30 / 80 cm, with frame: 53 / 102 cm
