Work by the French painter Georges Laporte (1926-2000) depicting a marine landscape, a central theme in his work, particularly after his move to Quiberon (Brittany) in the 1960s. His work is often described as gestural painting. He is known for his generous impasto (significant use of material) which he sometimes worked with a knife to give relief and strength to the foam and rocks. His distinctive signature "G. Laporte" can be clearly seen in the bottom right of the canvas. Based on the grain, it is very likely an oil on canvas or possibly a high-quality lithograph, although the texture suggests original painting. Width 40/35, height 34/29.
