Magnificent and iconic large Scandinavian pendant lamp called "Charlottenborg." Poul Henningsen's intention with this four-shade pendant lamp, as he called it when it was created in 1931, was to create a luminaire that could be mounted high up and serve as an alternative to the chandeliers commonly used in domestic lighting. The main difference between the four-shade pendant lamp and the three-shade pendant lamp is the four-shade pendant's ability to provide more light to walls. However, the pendant lamp didn't achieve widespread popularity until 1979. In fact, it was discontinued from Louis Poulsen's standard product line during the 1940s and was redesigned in 1979 in a larger version by two Danish architects, Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen, for the Charlottenborg exhibition hall in Copenhagen. Designer: Poul Henningsen. Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen. Origin: Denmark. Period: 1960 Condition: Good condition (metal is very slightly curved in one spot). Dimensions: D: 46.6 cm – H: 31.8 cm (excluding cable). Material: Extruded aluminum.
