We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent and rare green leather Chesterfield sofa, originally from the Victorian era and restored in 1890 by Cornelius V Smith. This Chesterfield sofa by Cornelius V Smith is in fabulous condition for its age, truly 10/10. It features the original horsehair upholstery and a coil spring base. The front edge, which is also spring-loaded, has been opened, checked, and sealed by a professional upholsterer trained in the Victorian method. The upholstery was renewed about four months ago by a third-generation upholsterer trained in the Victorian method. The front panel is spring-loaded, unlike a solid wood piece, a feature found only on the most luxurious original Chesterfields of the time. This complex construction makes these sofas particularly comfortable. The frame is made of mahogany with original porcelain casters. Dimensions: Height 68 cm, Width 200 cm, Depth 100 cm (measurements taken at the widest point). This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Wimbledon. Please note that vintage and original pieces like those with leather upholstery will naturally have a patina with cracks, creases, and wear. It is recommended to regularly wax to prevent moisture loss. Hand-dyed leather should not be exposed directly to prolonged sunlight, at risk of drying out and discolouration.
