Subject: Animated landscape of a couple of farmers near a farmhouse in the countryside. Medium: Oil on canvas. Frame dimensions: 56 X 43 cm. Painting dimensions: 46 X 33 cm. Period: Late 19th century to early 20th century. Condition: Signs of old restorations (see photos) Signed bottom right P. Lecomte. Paul Lecomte, born April 25, 1842, in Paris and died in the same city on March 21, 1920, was a French painter. Paul Lecomte was a student of the painter Émile Lambinet (1815-1877). He is considered one of the last representatives of the Barbizon School. He painted rural scenes of Île-de-France and landscapes with a preference for wooded ponds and colorful Provençal seascapes, particularly created around Marseille, often depicting trades that have since disappeared. He signed his works "Paul Lecomte, " which should not be confused with his nephew Paul Émile Lecomte. Paul Lecomte's works are part of the collections of the Louvre and the Petit Palais. Our painting wonderfully represents the work of this artist, depicting the rural life of a couple at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
