An old watercolour on paper in perfect condition, signed by Georges-Henri TRIBOUT (1884-1962), a referenced artist. This work is a summer representation of a seaside scene from the famous cliffs of Normandy, probably near Étretat and the Alabaster Coast. A view of a coastal landscape dominated by high chalk cliffs stretching to the right and blending into the marine horizon. In the foreground on the left, elements of the shore appear with a few small structures rendered schematically. In the background, the famous imposing seaside cliffs in chromatic tones provide a certain visual weight and a vast space. In the third plane, a bright sky treated in very light wash through vertical desaturation reveals the texture of the paper. The whole creates a soft and discreet atmosphere, conducive to daydreaming and journeys into the distant world of sea currents. The palette of tones is very rich and rather muted with beiges, pale ochres, pink greys, whites, greens, blues, etc. There is a genuine focus on transparency and glazing rather than impasto for a soft realism and a very subdued and subtle colour palette.
