Dino Martens for Aureliano Toso glass bowl Coppa Pesante 1940s

Large Venetian Sommerso glass bowl designed by Dino Martens and made by Aureliano Toso in the 1940s. The thick, transparent glass features rectangular green patches and areas of bubbles. Aureliano Toso, from a family of Murano glassmakers, founded his own company in 1938. His collaboration with painter and artist Dino Martens saw its first successes at the XXIII Venice Biennale. Over the years, bolder creations followed, which, like Pop Art, were clearly ahead of their time. Later, the influence of artists such as Gino Poli and Enrico Potz can be seen in the creations.
