Double presentation showcase - Japan around 1920

Japan early twentieth century – around 1920 - this piece of furniture combines sobriety, rigor, stripping and discreet oriental influence. The craftsman sought the balance between the protruding joints and general sobriety. The furniture is fully studded. Condition: studs and façade formerly varnished and not retouched. Shocks, visible wear. Wear, irregular coloration due to the heating mode of the time (brazier creating smoke deposits.) The furniture has not been waxed - the appearance is matte - the interior: traces of use, old wallpaper. The shelves are set back, making it easier to pass the hand to grasp objects. Windows: original, iridescent in places. One with old restoration in a corner. Total width 91 cm – depth 36 cm. Total height 173.5 cm. Transport: it is disassembled in two modules: low (height 98.5 cm) + high (75 cm). Studs make it possible to wedge the upper part. A single person can move them. Japanese work in the spirit of "mingei": artistic movement born at the beginning of the twentieth century, which revalued traditional craftsmanship. The characteristics: to unite aesthetics and beauty on a daily basis in simple gestures.
