The Tragic Return, oil on canvas, late 1800s

Oil on canvas. It likely represents a tragic anti-Semitic event. On the right, a wounded soldier in Russian uniform witnesses the dramatic scene of a massacred family while the rabbi prays for them. The broken window and overturned drawers clearly show that the killers burst into the house. To the left of the mirror, a Jewish inscription may indicate the location. The word can be translated as "Ciro" and could refer to the regions of Georgia and Azerbaijan near the Kura (the river that flows from Turkey to the Caspian Sea, known as "Ciro" in the 1800s). The painting, restored and re-canvas, is presented in a frame from the 1800s.
