This pair of gilded bronze candelabra, in Rocaille style and dating from the Napoleonic III era in the mid-19th century, is a dazzling example of the decorative arts of this period. Inspired by the designs of Juste Aurele Meissonnier (1695-1750), architect, ornamentalist, and goldsmith to King Louis XV, he is considered one of the figures of the Rococo style. Each candelabrum features six volute arms, beautifully decorated with scrolls and finely chiselled acanthus leaves, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the artisans of the time. The bodies of the candelabra are richly adorned with sculptures of putti, ribbon leaves, and other vegetative elements, creating a visual harmony and a wealth of details that captivate the eye. These ornaments add a dimension of whimsy and sophistication, typical of the Rocaille style, characterised by its elegant curves and floral motifs. These candelabra are not only functional objects but also works of art that bring a touch of luxury and grandeur to any interior. Their imposing presence and timeless beauty make them ideal centrepieces for enthusiasts of period furniture and refined design. ******** Period: Mid-19th century. Excellent condition, slight crack on an acanthus leaf with no risk of breakage. A later chalice. Shipping possible in France and internationally. Diameter: 32 cm. Height: 67.5 cm.
