Overview: Early Biedermeier secretaire / secretary from South Germany, circa 1820, in a tall, compact cabinet silhouette. Gable cornice and restrained classicist lines emphasise the veneered surfaces. Construction: Blonde cherry veneer with book-matched panels and narrow contrasting stringing. Ebonized (dark) moulded edges and original brass and iron fittings. Interior: Fold-down (fall-front) writing surface with ebonized decorative trims. Interior fitted with numerous drawers and secret compartments; lower section with two doors revealing a shelfboard and a long iron lock — original key included. Dimensions: Height 173 cm (including take-off gable cornice) / 158 cm without cornice. Width 100 cm; Depth 44 cm; listing indicates a very heavy piece (over 150 kg).
