This raku ceramic wall plaque features an extremely stylised face: against a milky white glazed background, marked by the cracks and black smoke typical of raku firing, stands out a black striped band at the top, a black brow arch, and a T-shaped nose, finished with an arrow highlighted in gold glaze, along with two square eyes suggested. A monogram is incised in the bottom right corner, and a hanging hole is made at the top. This primitivist writing, straddling tribal mask and geometric abstraction, is part of the 1970s artist ceramics movement, which rediscovered the Japanese raku technique and its random smoking effects to create unique pieces with a strong presence. Condition report: Generally good condition. Characteristic cracked glaze of the raku technique, with no notable visible damage. A singular wall piece that will engage equally with both primitive arts and contemporary decor.
