This antique Chinese kang-style coffee table, made of elm wood and dated around 1900, is part of the tradition of northern Chinese furniture related to life close to the ground. Its low and compact proportions reflect its use in interiors where daily activities—meals, work, and social life—took place on raised platforms or directly on the floor. Although it is not a strictly utilitarian kang table (kang zhuo), its typology clearly aligns it with this usage. It is distinguished by its softly sculpted apron, a rare element in the more austere kang tables, adding a decorative dimension while maintaining great structural sobriety. The construction is solid, with visible traditional joinery and a top reinforced by old repairs. The surface shows an original patina, with marks, knots, and natural variations. Today, this piece fits perfectly as a coffee table, sculptural element, or accent piece in contemporary interiors. Details. Dimensions: Width: 86 cm Depth: 54.5 cm Height: 26 cm.
