This chairs, model plia, were designed by giancarlo piretti for castelli, in italy, during the 1970's. Plia chair is the modern version of the traditional foldable chair in wood, but this one has a polished aluminum structure and a seat and back in smoked transparent molded perspex, that opens easily thanks to a efficient mechanism. When closed, each chair is a compact unit that only measures 4 cm. With round corners and edges and intended to be used indoors and outdoors, it did not take long to become popular thanks to its lightness and flexibility. In the economic and pop culture context of the late 1960s, the chair reflected the industry's advance towards a youthful, anti-materialist social attitude and the avant-garde preference for low-cost, unpretentious design. This set is in original and good condition with signs of use in the chrome and some light scratches in the plastic and a very small crack in the backof one of the chairs. It is all shown on the pictures.
