Willy Meysmans, Modernist Sculpture in Plaster

Large-scale figurative sculpture in bronze-patinated plaster by Willy Meysmans , Belgium, circa 1960s. Meysmans contributed to the Belgian pavilion at Expo 58 in Brussels and collaborated with Alfred Hendrickx on ceramic inlays for Belform furniture. The standing female figure leans back with arms outstretched, joints deliberately exaggerated. Head and anatomy are expressively simplified, powerfully modelled and full of tension. Gifted by the artist to a close friend, from whose private collection it originates. Signed on the base, and preserved in beautiful original condition, with an even greenish patina throughout. A rare large-format example of post-war Belgian sculpture.
