Niderviller coffee pot with kitten decoration – expressive earthenware from the 1950s.

French faience coffee pot attributed to the Niderviller Faïencerie, decorated with "Chatons, " hand-painted. A decidedly atypical piece, emblematic of the decorative explorations undertaken by certain French manufacturers in the 1950s to early 1960s, where the expression of the gesture takes precedence over classic figurative decoration. The elongated and architecturally structured silhouette of the jug is highlighted by a free vertical decoration, composed of drips and black and grey lines, applied by hand on a milky white background. The "Chatons" decoration here refers to the spring inflorescences of trees, interpreted in a stylised and almost abstract manner, in a very graphic and organic spirit. Stamped: the base bears an embossed stamp representing a crown surmounting two interlaced Cs (one upright, one inverted), a mark used by the Niderviller factory on certain productions from this period + mention Made in France – Hand-decorated. Height 26 cm, height without lid 23.5 cm, width from spout to handle 19 cm, diameter at the widest part of the container 12 cm, diameter at the opening 7 cm. Capacity: approximately 80–90 cl.
