Mid-Century Teak Coffee Table, Denmark, 1960s

This coffee table was made in Denmark during the 1960s. The piece represents the characteristic qualities of Scandinavian modernism, combining a simple, elegant form with functionality and carefully crafted details. The table is crafted from teak wood and features a rectangular tabletop with gently rounded corners and subtly sculpted, slightly convex shorter edges. The tabletop is finished with solid teak edging, highlighting the quality of craftsmanship and giving the piece its distinctive appearance. The softly rounded profile of the edges is an interesting woodworking detail that harmoniously complements the natural grain of the tabletop. The tabletop rests on four slender, tapered legs. A distinctive feature of the construction is the wooden stretchers connecting the legs along the shorter sides of the table. These provide additional stability while maintaining the visual lightness of the design. Thanks to its elongated proportions, the table is ideally suited as a centrepiece for a seating area, particularly in Mid-Century Modern living rooms and contemporary interiors. The table has undergone professional furniture restoration. The wooden surfaces were stripped of the old coating, then stained in an oak colour and protected with semi-matt lacquer. The restoration has preserved the table’s original form while restoring the attractive appearance of its surfaces.
