Noël Jean Gabriel RISPAL (Bordeaux 1892 - Châtillon 1970) Bust of a young woman. Circa 1960. Plaster. H. 42 cm (56 cm with the wooden base) Signed: G.N. RISPAL An intense portrait, with absolute mastery, of a young woman from the 1960s, by Gabriel Rispal. Although somewhat forgotten today, Rispal was one of the greatest French sculptors of the 20th century. The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux holds several of his works, and if you are in Paris, visit the Saint-Roch church on rue Saint-Honoré to see his direct-carved wooden sculptures representing the four cardinal virtues for the pulpit. This portrait of a young woman is undoubtedly the original plaster model for a bronze.
