This striking postmodern dining set was designed in the 1980s by renowned Dutch architect Arnold Merckx for ARCO. Crafted from black stained oak and upholstered in black saddle leather, they combine sculptural elegance with high-quality materials. With a refined silhouette, the armchairs feature a curved backrest and seat, offering comfort and visual appeal. The sculptural frame gives each chair the presence of a design object. The table has the same shaped legs. When not extended, the table top is intelligently tucked underneeth the table. Arnold Merckx graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts and Technical Sciences in Rotterdam and started his own studio, Arnold Merckx Design. Over the years, he collaborated with leading Dutch design brands such as Montis, Pastoe, and Artifort. The chairs remain in very good condition, with only minor signs of wear on the armrests and the leather. The leather is beautifully preserved, soft and rich in tone. Black (post) modernist dining set with 4 chairs and extendable table by Arnold Merckx for Arco, 1980s. The chairs are made of stained oak with padded leather upholstery. They are comfortable because of ergonomics and padding. Chairs measurements: 78 X 55 X 50 cm. Seating height is 45 cm. Table measurements: 180 X 90 cm, and when extended 50 cm extra. A rare opportunity to own a piece of Dutch design history — timeless, refined, and architecturally bold. All 4 chairs are pictured from above, so if you are interested, please reach out so I can send you the pictures.
