Shagreen Desk with Gold Metal, Modern Model

We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent black lacquered shagreen desk with gold metal details. This desk is very sturdy. For those who are not familiar, shagreen is the skin of a shark or ray. There are reproduction skins available, however, these are completely original. The way to differentiate them is by touch: on reproductions, each skin is exactly the same, while on the real skin, each cut is slightly different. This desk comes from a house in Chelsea, installed about 20 years ago by the richest woman in England at the time, who had the house built to host family and friends visiting London. The house has been used about five times during this period, so it has been sold. It is in excellent condition, although there may be some marks due to transport. Please note that vintage and original pieces such as leather seating will always have a natural patina in the form of cracks, creases, and wear. It is recommended to wax regularly to prevent moisture loss. Additionally, hand-dyed leather is not recommended to be exposed to prolonged direct sunlight as it dries out and discolours.
