A large oil on canvas depicting a portrait of a man in a bow tie (another portrait of his wife is also for sale on the site). Signed bottom right Alexandre Juliard and dated 1881. Presentation frame not sold with the painting. Tears on the canvas (see photo). Stamp of the fine arts shop Peltier – Angers, on the reverse. Period: late 19th century. Dimensions 72 X 58 cm. Ref adequantik 2603108B. Alexandre Théodore Laurent Juliard (1817-1886, French painter). Originally from Orléans, he was a student of Michel Martin Drolling and François Édouard Picot at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. A genre painter and portraitist, he participated in the Paris Salons from 1844 to 1874 and won a third-class medal in 1846. Public collections include: Portrait of Jane Dobrée, Nantes, Dobrée Museum; Portrait of Colonel Rapatel, Rennes, Museum of Fine Arts; Portrait of Mme de Maison, Tours, Museum of Fine Arts.
