They are made with high-quality local wool and natural dyes. The coarse thread limits detailed patterns, but gives beautiful and rustic carpets with great personal charm. Many villages have a unique style, which makes it easy to identify the village or region where the carpets were made. These carpets are made in some 500 to 600 villages in a vast area around the city of hamadān in northwestern iran. Each village or hamlet has its characteristic originality. The carpets are usually very colorful and the wool is of good quality.
