Hans J. Wegner “GE-125” Desk for GETAMA, 1960s

Danish “GE-125” oak desk designed by Hans J. Wegner for GETAMA, featuring a suspended two-drawer unit and the original manufacturer’s mark. The “GE-125” desk, designed by Hans J. Wegner for GETAMA, originated within the Danish designer’s exploration of functional furniture, initially conceived for educational environments and later offered as an office desk. An essential design in which structural clarity and practical considerations are combined with careful woodworking. Made of oak, the desk features a generous rectangular top supported by a linear frame with square-section legs and stretchers. A suspended drawer unit positioned to one side beneath the top contains two drawers with small cylindrical wooden handles; the lower drawer is fitted with a lock. The asymmetrical composition leaves much of the space beneath the top open while making the construction of the piece clearly visible. The desk retains its original “GETAMA GEDSTED DENMARK – DESIGN HANS J. WEGNER” mark, directly documenting both its designer and manufacturer. The “GE-125” belongs to Wegner’s collaboration with GETAMA, the Danish company for which he developed numerous pieces of furniture from the 1950s onwards, characterised by functionality, precise construction and a restrained use of materials.
