Stunning mid-century modern sommerso glass vase designed by Flavio Poli for Alessandro Mandruzzato (Murano, Italy, 1960s/1970s). Superb combination of burgundy and yellow encased in a block of transparent glass, using the renowned Venetian "Sommerso" technique. The vase is extremely decorative. Mandruzzato is well-known for producing exceptional geometric and cubic-shaped art glass pieces. Height: 29.5 cm; width: 7.5 cm; depth: 7.5 cm. Quite heavy (2.8 kg). Excellent vintage condition. No chips, no cracks, no flea bites. Some air bubbles in the glass and very light scratches. "Sommerso" is a technique developed in Murano in the 1930s which was very popular in the 1950s-70s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly cased by a clear layer.
