A transitional commode dating from the 18th century (circa 1767), veneered on all sides in rosewood with slightly projecting edges, framed in rosewood inlaid with yellow stringing. It features three drawers in two rows, each revealing a butterfly wing motif. The feet are rounded for three-quarters of their length, ending in cabriole legs and surmounted by chased and gilded bronze lion's paw feet. The commode is topped with a 3cm thick Belgian royal red marble slab, conforming to its shape with a molded edge. The bronze mounts are chased and gilded. This piece has one working lock and key. The frame and drawer interiors are made of oak. It is stamped by the cabinetmaker Jean-Baptiste Vassou (1739-1767), who became a master cabinetmaker on January 28, 1767, and bears the mark of the Guild of Master Cabinetmakers (JME). Provenance: Paris. Much of his furniture is in major French museums. Height: 94 cm Length: 103 cm Depth: 49 cm As the furniture for sale is antique (18th century, over 250 years old), it may sometimes show imperfections or signs of wear related to its age.
