Art Deco vase, alexandrite crystal glass, Moser, Czechoslovakia, 1930s

A crystal vase in the Art Deco style, made in the 1930s at the famous Czech Moser factory near Karlovy Vary. The form is crafted from alexandrite crystal glass, known for its unique ability to change colour depending on the lighting: from a cool, celadon shade in cold light to a subtle violet in warmer natural conditions. The upper part of the vessel is decorated with a dense diamond cut that disperses light with an intense play of reflections, while the lower part is accentuated by long, vertical cuts that visually elongate the vase's proportions. The highly glossy, smooth surface of the crystal is free of seams or mould lines; the cuts are precise and the glass clarity is intact. The rim and base remain perfectly smooth, with no chips or signs of repair. The lack of a signature is typical for some Moser series from this period. The vase is in very good condition – with no visible signs of use, completely original. This vase speaks the language of luxurious functionalism of the interwar period, when modernist order was combined with the decorative nature of cut crystal. Alexandrite glass, like a chameleon, responds to the whims of light — sometimes celadon and cool, sometimes subtly lilac, resonating with the colour of the day or the mood of the evening. The geometric rhythm of the cuts and the softness of the lines evoke the atmosphere of an elegant 1930s salon, where every object had its place and meaning, and the play of light on the crystal was almost a theatrical decoration of everyday life. The vase can be confidently displayed on a classic noble wood chest of drawers or a minimalist console — either alone or accompanied by other period utility vessels. It works perfectly as a solo accent in a bright space, where the colour change will be most visible, but it can also be paired with an opal glass lamp or silvery accents for a stylish Art Deco composition. Its presence will be a strong point both in a collector's set and in a fin-de-siècle or eclectic interior from the 1920s and 1930s.
