This african mask, circular and flat in shape, belongs to the family of goli masks of the baoulé people of côte d'ivoire. It is considered one of the key elements in traditional ceremonies. Adorned with a checkerboard pattern, it features hollowed-out eyes with protruding pupils and a finely sculpted rectangular mouth. The chiseled teeth recall the custom of filing teeth among young initiates. The rounded horns, characteristic of this type of mask, evoke the vigilant and alert attitude of the antelope. Goli masks are traditionally associated with funerary rituals and important events such as epidemics or community festivals. They were used to honor the spirits and invoke their protection to ensure prosperity, safety, and health. Condition: some signs of wear and visible restoration on the handle (glued wood). Height 46cm diameter 30cm.
