Description
Baoulé kple kple mask of the goli this african baoulé mask belongs to the goli group which intervenes during funerals or when serious danger threatens. The kple-kple type mask like this, worn by a young person, announces the release of the powerful golin glin. The circular face is always surmounted by horns, such as those of the ram. These horns connect him to nyamye, creator god. The sobriety of the features with the toothed mouth and the white circular crenellation further supports the facial expression. This stylistic find is perhaps due to the knowledge and influence of some flat masks from the volta region in burkina faso and ivory coast.
