Terracotta proof from an old edition made in fifteen copies, representing a Bather. Signed ALFRED JEAN HALOU (1875-1939) on the terrace, countersigned inside and justified 3/15. Dimensions: Height: 40 cm, depth: 16 cm (terrace), width: 16 cm (terrace) Sale price: €950 (excluding delivery charges) BIOGRAPHY Alfred Jean Halou is the son of a sculptor, Alfred Jean-Baptiste Halou (1829-1891), who was close to Jules-Aimé Dalou and Auguste Rodin. Halou junior attended classes in Alexandre Falguière's class at the École des Beaux-Arts and was also a student of Rodin. He was part of "the Schnegg gang, " whose driving force was Lucien, the brother of Gaston Schnegg, and whose most important members included: Antoine Bourdelle, Charles Despiau, Robert Wlérick, Léon-Ernest Drivier, François Pompon, Louis Dejean, Alfred Jean Halou, Charles Malfray, Auguste de Niederhausern, Élisée Cavaillon, Henry Arnold, Jane Poupelet, and Yvonne Serruys. After Lucien's death in 1909, the group continued to meet around Gaston. Alfred Jean Halou participated in numerous salons and received commissions for monumental works in Blois and Oucques. He also created many small female figures, blending the styles of Maillol and Rodin. DELIVERY: Free and in person for Paris and the Paris region.
