5156-1r10ag. Mesbah ceremonial lamp on pedestal with three oil buckets. Terracotta painted in ochre and black with geometric decorations and pastilles. Note a large handle on the back. Algeria great kabylie djurdjura, early twentieth century. Height: 29 cm, weight 1kg325 grams. The oil lamp is a symbol of fertility. She is brought before the wedding procession, then deposited in the room of the bride and groom where she burns the wedding night. It is also lit during the festivities of the new year, so that the soul of the ancestors covers with its protection the house and its inhabitants.
