Raphaël Dubois was a Belgian painter, born in Liège in 1888 and died in 1960 (?). He studied at the Liège Academy under the direction of E. Carpentier (1902-1903). He produced landscapes, urban landscapes, figures and still lifes. In 1905, he discovered Impressionism. His landscapes are painted in a palette of fresh and bright colours and exude spontaneity. After the First World War, he settled in Montparnasse/France and stayed in Nice/France from 1930 to 1939. During the Second World War, he worked in Brussels and Paris. Raphaël Dubois is mentioned in Bas I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. Belgian post-impressionist artist born in Liège, Dubois settled in Paris between 1912 and 1927 where he became friends with the artists of the Paris school, including Modigliani who painted a portrait of him in 1911-2. He used the pseudonym "chanterou" during this period. Size with old wooden frame: Width 43cm. Height 38cm. Works by Dubois are kept at the 1930s museum in Boulogne-Billancourt.
