Commode known as a tomb from the Louis XV period, veneered in violet wood with marquetry. Tomb commode in the Louis XV style – a characteristic "tomb" curved shape of French furniture from the 18th century. The term "tomb" refers to a beautiful, slightly convex silhouette at the front and sides, inspired by the lines of ancient sarcophagi and developed in the ceremonial furniture of early 18th-century France. Notable are the strongly curved lines at the front and sides, as well as the flowing shapes of the drawer supports that follow the curve of the commode. Rich original bronze decoration. This commode is topped with its original grey marble, moulded in a corbin beak style. This marble has been restored (see photo). Solid wood/veneer: rich marquetry (rosewood, amaranth, violet or other decorative woods depending on the piece). • Marquetry veneer: diamond or frieze patterns made from carefully selected veneers, typical of Parisian and Bordeaux workshops of the 18th century. Ornamentation in gilded bronze (ormolu): lock entries, corner drops, handles, and feet enhanced with chiselled bronzes, often gilded with fine gold — typical rocaille decoration of the Louis XV style. Marble top: natural marble (often griotte or other richly veined marble), moulded in "corbin beak" or sculpted profile. Superb antique tomb commode in the Louis XV style with precious wood marquetry, richly curved at the front and sides. Top in moulded natural marble, fittings and handles in finely chiselled gilded bronze. Three rows of drawers with elegant proportions and fine craftsmanship. A ceremonial piece with a remarkable presence, typical of 18th-century French cabinetmaking. Width 135 cm, depth 66 cm, height 86 cm.
