Very large flared vase in polychrome ceramic on a matte and creamy white enamel background showing through removal holes the black of the dough. The vase is signed under the foot "bessonne vallauris scdg n.13". The interior is a beautiful yellow sun. Excellent condition, no cracks, enamel jumps or cooking defects to report. Small 5 mm wide gin on one of the corners of the base, invisible when the vase is laid (see photo). Height: 39 cm; Neck diameter: 22.5 cm; Weight: 2.3kg; Historical: The vase presents a decoration of abstract geometric shapes typical of the freeform current that developed in the 1950s. Artists seek to create organic forms in order to rediscover the poetry and lyricism that is lacking in the functionalist design of reconstruction. Following picasso, marius bessone moved with other young artists to vallauris in the 1950s, alongside roger capron and jean derval, for example. Bessone tries in turn to crystallize or to render surface effects reminiscent of volcanic rock, which is particularly visible in the white background of this vase. His interest in painting is also found in the blue, orange, yellow, pink and green shapes that stand out from the background.
