Painted Folk Art Bridal Chest

This beautiful antique bridal chest dates from around 1900 and has an extremely decorative painting. This example comes from romania and is a beautiful example of folk art from that time. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was subsequently placed on the farm in a stately room that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions. All our bridal chests have been checked and, if necessary, restored, although the characteristic appearance of these cases has been retained. For example, the hinges in this box have been replaced and the whole has been treated against woodworm and provided with beeswax. The paint on this copy is beautifully worn overall. 41cm high, 115cm wide, 50cm deep.
