Vallauris Ceramic Fountain – Mermaid, 20th Century

Imposing polychrome glazed ceramic fountain from Vallauris, a mecca of 20th-century French ceramic art. It depicts a seated mermaid holding an amphora from which water gushes, surmounting a large circular basin resting on a pedestal decorated with marine and organic motifs. The texture and shades of green and white glazes recall the naturalist inspiration and boldness of Vallauris's creations in the second half of the 20th century.
