Set of 3 Bauhaus chairs by Mart Stam. Based on the iconic S33 created by Mart Stam in 1926, these examples date from the 1930s and in this version, with rounded ends, are very rare! They may be the version for Robert Slezák or FN6 for Mücke-Melder (Czechoslovakia) or S43 for Thonet. Cantilever tubular structure. Seats and backs made of bent multiplex beech plywood. In general good condition. Signs of wear consistent with age. The corner of one of the seats has been re-glued. Two missing pieces on the seat of the chair without armrests. Dimensions (W/D/H): 55 cm X 46 cm X 81 cm. (Seat height: 45 cm). These modernist chairs are nearly 100 years old and still appear contemporary due to their industrial design! The S33 model by Mart STAM is legendary as it revolutionised the history of design. Created in 1926, they were the first chairs where the traditional four legs were replaced by a sled base (or cantilever). They are often mistakenly attributed to Marcel BREUER, who was also part of the BAUHAUS movement and drew inspiration from it to create his famous B34.
