Mid-Century Modern "Rider on the Road" Swedish Vintage Street Scene Oil Painting, Framed

A richly coloured mid century modernist style composition, executed in oil onto canvas by the established swedish artist stig wernheden (1921-1997), whose works have been represented at public collections in sweden including the moderna museet, malmö museum, snuff & match museum, ystad art museum and malmö city hall. In this scene we see the back of a figure on a donkey, walking towards a town in the distance. Lush greenery and verges on either side frame the composition, leading our eyes inwards towards the figure. The painting features wonderful pops of colour, including bright blue and orange. The artist has worked in a modernist style, using formal elements such as shapes and contrasting colours to create depth within the composition. The artist’s adeptness with his medium is evident in his clever use of colours and forms, and in the way he has achieved such balance in the composition. This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited black and gilt frame with inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition. Size: 42.5 X 64 cm (including frame).
