Dutch School 19th Century: Important Portrait of a Notable – Oil on Canvas – Signed Important ceremonial portrait depicting a bearded man, shown half-length in a solemn pose. The subject is dressed in a black coat and a white shirt, and wears a remarkable gold ceremonial chain around his neck, ending with a significant medallion. His right hand rests on a table covered with a rich fabric in red and green tones, alongside a piece of silverware, while the other hand holds his garment. The painter pays particular attention to the face, the red beard, the hands, as well as the details of the chain and the medallion, which stand out vividly against the sobriety of the costume and the dark background. This official representation likely evokes a high dignitary or notable, with the chain clearly constituting an attribute of office or distinction. The identity of the character and the exact nature of the insignia remain to be determined. Oil on canvas showing a network of cracks and some visible marks and small accidents, consistent with its age. Presented in its imposing gilded wooden and stucco frame, richly moulded and decorated with foliage motifs. A very fine ceremonial portrait from the 19th century, of large dimensions and significant decorative presence. Total dimensions with frame: H. 142 × W. 106 cm. Period: 19th century. Signature to be identified.
