An important sterling silver tiffany centrepiece, c 1951, also called 'modern' inspired by the modern movement, tiffany silversmiths produced spectacular silver pieces during the 1950s that were completely devoid of ornament and decoration; relying on its form to create an object of beauty. The only decoration on this sculptural piece are the four rings on the base of the pedestal. oscar riedener, tiffany's silver designer, who was to replace arthur barney in 1955 as head of silver design, almost certainly designed this piece. The underside of this magnificent piece is marked 'tiffany & co / manufacturers / sterling silver / 23356 / m'. According to carpenter's 'tiffany silver', this particular 'm' mark was used from 1947 to 1955 and this piece was designed between 1951-2. It measures 32 cm in diameter by 11 cm in height. Has never been monogrammed and is in good condition. Original patina and minor oxidation consistent with use and age. Weight 1338 gr.
