Very beautiful original watercolour depicting a particularly lively scene of daily life in Southeast Asia (Indochina). The work portrays the hustle and bustle of a village market, lined with traditional houses featuring thatched and bamboo roofs. The characters, painted in motion, wear the typical cultural attributes of the region: Sarongs (or longyis/sinh), these traditional skirts draped around the waist, Wide conical hats and woven straw hats to protect against the tropical sun. Bamboo poles (wooden yokes placed on the shoulder to balance two baskets), A bright work with colours that remain particularly vivid and fresh. Dating from the mid-20th century (1940s-1960s), it fits perfectly within the style of travelling painters or local artists from the colonial and post-colonial period. The work is fully protected under glass with its original light grey-green cerused wooden frame and cardboard mount. The whole is in very good condition. The back of the frame is sealed (preserved period mounting). Signed in the bottom right with a stylised monogram (reads "Dyx", "Dy", or "Dyf"). Dimensions of the work (sight): H 27 cm X W 23.6 cm. Total dimensions with the original frame: H 40.5 cm X W 47 cm (Depth: 2 cm) Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Careful and well-protected shipping or hand delivery on site or in Paris.
